My step father was airlifted and was placed in the SICU after being struck by a car during a walk. It was the most tragic and devastating experience to both my family and me. We knew within hours of his arrival how bad it really was. He had serious brain trauma and was not going to make it. As we signed the papers for his DNR, organ donation and waited for the process of organ donation to start we met some amazing nurses in the SICU. I cannot express how thankful I am for them throughout our stay there. The connection with the nurses was something I have never experienced before and I appreciate each one of them. As you can imagine, my mother did not leave his bedside for more than a few minutes as we waited for the organ donation process. I unfortunately was not able to stay the night shift with her but I am very grateful for the nurse that did.
Alecia Gasparo helped my mother get through the first night. My mother could not say enough good things about her. She mentioned that Alecia still talked to my step-father as if he was still alive and aware. She let him know everything she was doing prior to doing it. My mother mentioned the time Alecia spent with her throughout the night just talking to her, like a friend. My mother also mentioned how easy it was to talk to her, how Alecia played music as she gave him a bed bath, and how amazing a nurse she was. Not being able to stay with my mom that night throughout the process of this tragic event was hard for me but knowing that she had someone there she could trust made me feel so much better.
My mother and I think that Alecia is an amazing nurse and we wish to express our gratitude to her. Thank you.
