1. Adina Shulman is an individual whose everyday interactions with staff across all disciplines, enables the department to provide the greatest quality of care to our patients. Adina is a knowledgeable nurse with an enormous ability for quick critical care thinking while exercising exceptional clinical skill and empathy to all our patients. Adina approaches patients, and their family/friends with regard and compassion while addressing their medical necessities. Her smile and sincerity reinforces a sense of calm.Adina is often asked to cover as charge RN. She manages a large diversified patient population throughout the Emergency Department while providing support and leadership to our staff. No matter where she is working, Mina consistently extends herself to her fellow co-workers and patients in need. Whether assisting in triage or at a bedside, Adina will always advocate for timely and efficient patient care. Some of the best examples of Adina's everyday practice are her willingness and enthusiasm to be part of a team. Notifications are announced overhead in our department to alert members of our staff that a seriously ill patient will be arriving. Adina will always, without hesitation, make sure her patients needs are met and run into our critical care rooms making herself available to perform any task. Her character is undeniably dedicated to our department and the community we serve. I am proud to have Adina on our team.


2. Adina remains calm, cool and collected during times of crisis, and sets the right tone for those around her patients and staff included. She always has the entire department's well being in mind and this is evident in her work and the decisions she makes throughout the day. A large number of staff depend on her to taken care of patients and to ensure the right patient flow throughout the department. She cares very much about her colleagues, her patients, and about the general level of care being provided in the ED- her integrity and professionalism is always evident, and she can be counted on to maintain this consistently, even under difficult circumstances. She is one of the first faces patients see when they enter our ED and we are lucky to have her as a care provider and as a representative of our department.


3. When I first came to Beth Israel I was a traveler. I was originally from New York but spent 3 years traveling to many Emergency rooms in California and Chicago. Throughout the 3 years I worked with many nurses and learned a great deal from all of them. However, when I came to BI and worked alongside Adina she was like no other nurse that I've seen or worked with. The dedication, passion and teamwork she displayed was outstanding. I immediately felt comfortable. She made me feel like part of the ER team. She took time to teach me the ropes in the ER and was always looking to help me to become better acclimated with the hospital and also opened me up to the staff I remember one of the first times I was assigned the resuscitation roorn and received my first notification. Just like any ER nurse, you kind of go into a work mode where everything becomes second nature. Half way through, I realized Adina was right by my side helping me and teaching me where everything was. She never left my side. It was the first time in three years I felt like I was part of a team again. It was days like this and nurses like Adina, which made me decided I wanted to give up traveling and become a part of the Beth Israel team. I'm not only proud to call her my co-worker but also call her my friend, Vanessa Torres.


4. Adina Shulman has been at BIMC in the ED for the past four years. As a staff RN in the ED, she is generally known for her tremendous competence in her clinical skills. The ED knows that if Adina is assigned to a particular patient, that the patient will receive thorough nursing care. Since our department has been working with only 2 out of 6 of our nursing management positions, Adina has been asked to step up and work as a charge nurse. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing the placement and flow of patients throughout the ED and she oversees staffs. She approaches this role with enthusiasm and passion. On a recent busy day, she called and asked me to walk the floor with her. She challenged me to find a stretcher that wasn't being used and point out that she was able to place all patients in the back treatment area and move them out of the waiting room. (I couldn't find one unused stretcher.) As we walked, she reminded a nurse to immediately chart in EMSTAT when a bed is available. She was successful moving patients through the ED (one of the goals of our department) by creatively using space, staff and resources. After one of her shifts as charge nurse, Adina asked me how many walkouts there were on her shift. She and I reconciled the walkout report and looked up each patient to determine if they walked out on her shift. (There were very few.) These are examples of how Adina works-she is creative and understands how the ED operates and our priorities. She works to the greater good of the department and takes pride in her work.
