Becoming a DAISY Award
Hospital Partner

Request more information about The DAISY Award

Our Vision is for The DAISY Award to honor nurses in every hospital or hospice that wants it, deserves it, and is willing to do what it takes to make it meaningful for their nurses.

What do we mean by “deserves it?” That the Chief Nursing Officer and other administrators of the hospital believe, as we do, that nurses play a paramount role in patient care and that nurses deserve to be recognized on an on-going basis for the work they do every day. If this is a priority for your hospital, we are here to make it simple and to help you make it meaningful for your nurses.

A turnkey program

We provide the materials you need. Once you confirm to us that you are committed to having The DAISY Award at your hospital, we will send you our DAISY Welcome Kit - a notebook and password to the Hospital Partner section of this website - that includes everything you and your team will need to launch and administer the program, including:
  • a planning guide
  • DAISY Award nomination form templates for you to tailor to your hospital
  • Ideas on how to promote the program in the hospital and generate nominations
  • a draft press release to assist your marketing department
  • DAISY logos for use on your materials and website
  • a tight outline on how to present the Award, and more.
Prior to your first presentation, we will email your DAISY Award certificate and ship you a supply of Healer’s Touch sculptures, certificate portfolios, DAISY Award pins, Nominee Pins, Cinnabon© gift certificates, DAISY Award banner, and brochures.

We ask you, in turn, to:
  1. Decide who will run it.Hopefully, a team who will enthusiastically steer it and tailor it to fit your mission and values as a hospital. We will do everything we can to assist them, but ultimately, it is your program to execute. Generally, our hospitals’ CNO’s identify a team of nurses to run it – either an existing committee (e.g. Professional Practice Council, Recruitment/Retention Committee, education staff) or a committee dedicated to implementing The DAISY Award. Always, we suggest a marketing person work closely with the DAISY team.

  2. Establish criteria for selecting DAISY Award Nurses. While Honorees are generally nominated by fellow nurses, physicians, hospital staff, patients, family members – anyone who comes in contact with nurses and feels the impact of the work they do – the specific criteria for selecting Honorees is up to you.

We assume you have other ways to recognize your nurses’ excellent clinical skill and achievements. The DAISY Award’s point of difference is our desire to honor the special human consideration nurses give their patients every day as a very important part of the healing process. That’s why we say that The DAISY Award celebrates the compassionate care of extraordinary nurses..

  3. Determine the number of DAISY Awards you will present each year. This program is designed to provide on-going recognition of nurses. We will work with you to help determine the number of Awards each year that will ensure the program has impact throughout all your nursing units and the hospital at large. Generally, our hospitals present a DAISY Award to a deserving nurse each month (or make 3 presentations per quarter). In the case of smaller hospitals that have fewer than 500 nurses, quarterly awards may be more appropriate. This is a decision we will make together, once you have reviewed your Welcome Kit.

  4. Create your nomination forms and materials to publicize the program inside the hospital. The Welcome Kit has nomination form templates for printed and on-line nominations. Our hospitals normally prepare a printed version of the nomination form, available to patients and visitors to nominate a nurse for The DAISY Award and an on-line nomination form available on the hospital’s intranet for nominations by nurses, physicians, and other staff. Your marketing department will be very helpful in determining how to promote the program in-house to ensure you get as many nominations as possible and to make it important within your culture.

  5. Set a start date! We hope that within 6 months of your receiving your Welcome Kit, you’ll be ready to announce your DAISY Award program and start collecting nominations.

  6. Once we have your start date, we’ll send you all the DAISY Award goodies that each of your Honorees will receive.
To start the process, simply click on the button below and complete the DAISY Award Hospital Partner Application Form. When you click on the form’s submit button, your contact information will digitally transfer to AONE’s Project Manager. She will email you
  • A detailed explanation of how the program works
  • A DAISY Award Hospital Partner Information Form. When you email your Partner Information Form back to AONE, The DAISY Foundation will mail your Welcome Kit so you can get started planning and implementing your DAISY Award program.
Implementing The DAISY Award is a relatively simple process, and we are here to help you all along the way. It is also an opportunity for you to be creative and have fun with this! We look forward to hearing you are interested in becoming a DAISY Award Hospital.
