Rita Rusenas supports best practice in her specialty and is extremely knowledgeable in ostomy, wound, and skin care. She always acts in the patient’s best interest. In addition, Rita heads up the wound care team. This team is responsible for collecting quarterly NDNQI data. Rita’s strong, consistent leadership in this area has proven to strengthen and play a valuable role in our Magnet journey. Rita is very flexible, patient, a readily accessible resource, and confidently shares her expertise with other nurses, physicians, and patients/families. She eagerly offers time and talents to nursing students. Rita is a leader on various hospital committees and collaborates regionally to ensure consistent care throughout the region. A DAISY nurse is the kind of nurse whom fellow RNs say, “I would want this nurse to take care of my mother or best friend.” Rita did just that. She recently provided expert care for a colleague in need with great generosity, compassion, clinical clarity, and met needs well beyond her specialty.
