Paul Maniago, RN, MBA

Ortho/Neuro/Trauma,

Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Last week, Paul was caring for an infant who was a victim of inflicted injury. The 19 year old single mother had recently learned that her boyfriend had been arrested for shaking the baby. She was devastated. Paul was completely non-judgmental in his care of this mother and baby. He advocated for the mother’s needs, addressing her request to have the neurologists come and review the baby’s MRI and speak with the mother regarding the baby’s long-term prognosis. Paul communicated with the Trauma Nurse Practitioner, social worker, Child Advocacy physician and care coordinator in the usual professional and caring manner that he always shows.

Paul is an extremely hard worker, an excellent nurse, and a wonderful advocate for this patients and families every day. In addition, he recently participated in a mission trip to Haiti. He spent countless hours of his own time working to obtain donated medical supplies to take with him on the trip. Paul is most deserving of the DAISY Award.
