Lisa Hughes, RN

Orthopedics, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics

Iowa City, Iowa

Lisa has been a nurse at UI Hospitals and Clinics primarily working in
Orthopedics, since 1987! She is an excellent staff nurse with expert
care giving skills and knowledge, and is a true team player, working
closely with her colleagues to create outstanding patient outcomes.

Lisa was nominated for a DAISY Award by Dr. Harold Adams, Director of
the UI Hospitals and Clinics Stroke Center, for recognizing an evolving
stroke in a post operative total hip replacement patient and alerting
the stroke team to intervene. The actions of Lisa Hughes, in
recognizing the symptoms of an evolving stroke and getting the stroke
team to see the patient quickly resulted in the patient going to
interventional radiology for emergency endovascular treatment of a clot
in her R mid cerebral artery.

Because of this quick treatment, the patient was discharged with absolutely

no complications of her stroke.
