Katherine Speer, RN

Neurology Acute Care, Harborview Medical Center

Seattle, Washington

Katherine was nominated by a coworker:

Sometimes it's the little things that make a difference to patients. I went into a patient’s room to see what was needed and Katherine was assisting an elderly lady who was so upset because she had an accident in the bed. Katherine was very quietly and calmly assisting her and every once in a while patting the lady on the arm-She didn’t say anything but was just comforting her as she worked. This was probably a situation that happens many times in Katherine’s day and the fact that it does and how cared for she makes her patients feel is why she is worthy of this award. As we were changing the woman’s bed she said to me-"You know I was very upset about this and everything but as soon as Katherine walked in the room I knew that everything was going to be OK" This is the essence of caring-To make patients feel cared for by doing the little things.

Katherine is an amazing nurse and worthy of this award.
