Recently Cheryl pursued treatment for one of her patients who, while recovering from complex bowel surgery, experienced chest pressure and difficulty in breathing. The patient, a retired ICU nurse, was frustrated with her situation and generally hard to please. It might have been easy to “blow her off” as a complainer. Cheryl remained focused, her assessment was spot on and she actively advocated for her patient. As it turns out, the patient had a large posterior wall MI, underwent emergency angioplasty and will make a full recovery. Because Cheryl listened, assessed and sought a solution, this patient had no permanent damage to her heart. The Rapid Response Team would like to nominate Cheryl for a DAISY Award. She is a caring, professional who always gives 100%, is never afraid to advocate and always puts her patients first.
