Carl received two nominations: From a fellow RN: Here is a "shout out" to Carl Burroughs, ET RN extraordinaire. I recently moved to GIM to be an RN Diabetic Care Manager (where I feel very comfortable with my knowledge base). Little did I know I would also be a "venous stasis ulcer" care nurse (not my area of expertise). I called Carl asking for any help or direction he could provide me in order to improve the quality of care I would need to give to my new outpatient population. What he gave me was more than direction, he gave me his time - every minute of it invaluable. As he can't be used as a resource for our ambulatory patients (inpatient duties too great) he gave me a great start to improve care for wound management in GIM. He provided web site tutorials to gain knowledge, information on dressing products and how to order and where to use Cerner for documentation. He is obviously an expert at what he does and his commitment to quality patient care is evident with the time he took to educate me. Carl, you rock! From a patient: Carl has been my urostomy nurse: he has been hugely generous with his time, patience, and instruction. His understanding of my fears, anxieties, and frustration has been boundless. Seeing him and receiving his care has given me great comfort.
