Melinda and Roy Standridge, RN are DAISY's first ever couple to both receive The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses! Melinda received the DAISY Award in 2008 at Arkansas Children's Hospital and currently works in the Outpatient Hemotology Clinic at ACH and also works PRN in the ED. Roy is University of Arkansas for Medical Science's "DAISY of the Month" for July 2010.
“Melinda and Roy both being honored with The DAISY Award is, indeed, a first! I can only imagine what a special couple they must be – dedicated to incredible compassionate care for their patients and to making a difference in the world together. I would love to meet them.”-Bonnie Barnes, DAISY President, Co-Founder

Cinnabon Wows Nurses During Nurses Week 2009
During Nurses Week 2009, more than 300 Cinnabon® Bakeries throughout the United States and Canada helped The DAISY Foundation honor nurses by giving away a Classic Cinnabon cinnamon roll to nurses who showed their healthcare badges.
The promotion included beautiful signage in each bakery touting the product offer (pictured here). FOCUS Brands, Cinnabon’s parent company, did a great job ensuring nurses knew about the offer with outreach to the nursing profession media. They featured the offer on the home page of Cinnabon’s website for several weeks prior to Nurses Week, promoted it in newspapers, on television, and even on a huge sign in Times Square! We were very impressed by the number of mentions it got in a variety of on-line forums that alert consumers to special offers from companies.
From east to west and north to south, nurses who visited participating bakeries greatly appreciated the gesture extended to them. Cinnabon received many positive comments such as, “I just wanted to thank DAISY and Cinnabon for acknowledging the work of nurses. Thank you for reminding me why I chose this profession and that all I can do is continue to give care with my entire heart. I may not make everyone happy, but I know I give my all in it.” And “Just wanted you to know how much I appreciated the gift of the Cinnabon during Nurses Week. It was a thoughtful gesture, and a very ‘sweet one’ at that.”
Bonnie Barnes, co-founder of The DAISY Foundation, was very appreciative as well. “We’re grateful to have the tremendous support of Cinnabon, and we look forward to a long-lasting relationship. At every hospital we visit, the Cinnabon brand is beloved. After about 30 years in brand marketing, I don’t think I’ve ever come across a brand that has such a universally positive image as Cinnabon has. We are very fortunate to have their help in our effort to honor nurses around the country.”
Cinnabon tells us that they look forward to many future endeavors with The DAISY Foundation, so stay tuned for next year’s Nurses Week.

The DAISY Foundation Receives a
Jefferson Award For Public Service in February, 2007
The Jefferson Awards were established in 1972 to "encourage and honor individuals for their achievements and contributions through public and community service." In 1977, they created The Media Partnership to seek out grassroots "Unsung Heroes" and take on the role of administering the program across the country. We are honored that the San Francisco Chronicle and KPIX-TV CBS television and KCBS-AM in San Francisco have selected The DAISY Foundation as one of their "unsung
heroes."

Association of California Nurse Leaders Select The DAISY Foundation As Their Friend of Nursing For 2006
As we said when the President of ACNL called us to tell us this incredible news, "We're in the 'business' of honoring nurses - not being honored by nurses!" But we were ever so thrilled that The DAISY Award is having this kind of impact on the nursing profession.
Making it especially meaningful was having DAISY Board Member Mary Dee Hacker, RN, MSN, Vice President, Patient Care Services of Childrens Hospital, Los Angeles, present the award to Co-Founders Bonnie and Mark Barnes. Also attending the presentation of the award at ACNL's annual meeting in Los Angeles in February, 2006, were DAISY Board members Lynne Doll, President, The Rogers Group; and Judy and Bruce England, Family Sponsors of the DAISY Award at Children's Hospital, Oakland, and Renown Regional Medical Center. |
